Epi-LASIK and LASIK Eye Surgery

epi lasikMost people have already heard about the amazing laser eye surgery, LASIK.  After all, it is hard not to come across at least one advertisement for a local LASIK eye surgeon throughout your day.  This technology, although new, is ever booming.  But did you know that this is not the only kind of laser eye surgery?  There are actually several different ones.  Each can help different kinds of people achieve their eye related goals.

There are several reasons why you may need to go through laser eye surgery.  Although there can be lots of reasons, there are three main eye defects that could be the culprit.  The most common of these is myopia.  This is when you are near-sighted, which means that you have a hard time focusing on things in a distance.  This happens when you have a defect in your cornea.  The cornea is the clear covering of your eye.  It essentially acts like a camera lens as it controls the focus of the things that you see.  Luckily, laser eye surgery can help with this.

Laser eye surgery can also help with hyperopia.  Hyperopia is basically the opposite condition of myopia.  Rather than having a hard time seeing things that are far away, you can't see things that are close up.  This can be a huge problem whenever you try to read something like a book or a restaurant menu.  The third and final eye problem of this group is astigmatism.  This happens when the curvature of the cornea is warped.  It blurs your vision so that you have a hard time seeing nearly everything.  Laser eye surgery can help with this, too.

Not everyone can get traditional LASIK eye surgery, though.  If you have a particularly thin cornea, they won't be able to go on with the procedure.  If they do, they may permanently damage your vision.  In the past, people with thin corneas were just out of luck.  Not anymore, though.  Now you can go through with Epi-LASIK surgery.  This will instead alter the surface of the cornea instead of cutting into it, letting people with thin corneas have perfect vision.  If you do have a thin cornea, this could be a great option for you.

For a lot of people, laser eye surgery cost is a big deal.  They are afraid that it will be too expensive and they will have to live with glasses for the rest of their life.  First, you need to learn what's normal when it comes to laser eye surgery cost.  While it does vary from doctor to doctor, as well as what region you live in, laser eye surgery will generally cost between $2000 and $4000.  Try to avoid clinics that charge any less than this.  They may not be as reputable and their services will be in question.  It is worth the extra money to make sure that your surgery goes well.

When you think about the cost involved with this kind of surgery, you need to also think about what you are paying for glasses every year.  New glasses can easily cost five hundred dollars when it comes to frames and lenses.  If you get glasses every year, you will have spend the $2,000 that you would have spent on LASIK, on glasses instead.  and that spending has no end in sight if you never get the laser eye surgery.  The great thing about LASIK and Epi-LASIK is that it is just one quick procedure and you have permanent and perfect results.  There's no need to continue getting glasses or any other terrible and expensive equipment anymore.
